A new sketchbook / Um novo sketchbook

I bought this sketchbook months ago and, since then, felt like I was not ready to drawn on it, because it was so beautiful and expensive. Nothing seemed to be bold and beautiful enough to do "the opening"...

But today I've seen something that is meant to be there: some pics of the new Dior collection. OH-MY-GOD! What a make-up artist they had...

I was invited to define the meaning of "Being on Cloud 9" by TAM (a Brazilian airline company) Magazine. Well, I am afraid my answer is too obvious, but totally true: flying.
On the next posts I will show you how I've decided to illustrate this feeling.

More of the owls / Mais das corujas

The owls from Illustration Friday's theme "Fail" were actually done for a book cover which title is (roughly translated): "Being a mom is super good". It's about what motherhood means for some of Brazilians famous mothers and how it has affected their lives. It is published by my husband's publishing house, Matrix, and the copyrights will be donated to an organization named "Amparo Maternal", which cares for pregnant women (teenagers, single moms, abused, homeless, physical or mentally challenged and even psychopats) that otherwise would not have any assistance. My first option to illustrate this cover was Geninne, a good friend from "Blogsphere" that has the cutest (and truly maternal) work I've ever seen. But due to the short time we had to print it for free, I did it myself. Although I am a mother too, I've never been into drawing animals, birds and cute things like that, but a good cause deserves a good work, therefore I've done my best and I can say I am proud and happy to have accomplished it. "Never say never", right?

As corujas do tema "Falhar" do post "Illustration Friday" foram feitas na verdade para a capa do livro "Ser mãe é tudo de bom", que fala sobre o que a maternidade significa para algumas mães famosas aqui do Brasil e como isso afetou suas vidas. O livro é publicado pela Matrix (editora do meu marido) e os direitos autorais serão doados à "Amparo Maternal", organização que cuida de grávidas (adolescentes, mães solteiras, vítimas de violência doméstica ou estupro, com deficiências físicas ou mentais e até mesmo psicopatas) que, caso contrário, não teriam acesso à assistência nenhuma. Minha primeira opção para ilustrar a capa era a Geninne, uma boa amiga da Blogsfera, que tem o trabalho mais fofo e maternal que eu já vi. Mas com o tempo curto, e uma "brecha" da gráfica para imprimir de graça, tive que fazer eu mesma. Mesmo sendo mãe, nunca fui muito de desenhar coisas fofinhas, animais e que tais. Mas uma boa causa merece um trabalho bem feito, então mandei bala e acabei satisfeita com o resultado. "Nunca diga nunca", certo?
